Red Hook Brownfield Analysis and Plan 2014, 2023

The New York City Department of City Planning defines brownfields as vacant or underutilized properties where contamination or perceived contamination has deterred investment and redevelopment.

With the ultimate goal of creating stratagies for the reuse and redevelopment of current brownfields New York State and New York City developed the Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) program to provided financial and technical assistance to community-based organizations and municipalities working towards the revitalization of affected areas.

In 2014, the New York City Department of City Planning for the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation and the New York State Department of State issued a report funded through the Brownfield Opportunity Areas Program:
