Brooklyn Greenway

The Greenway is a 14-Mile Route Connecting Brooklyn's Waterfront

When complete, this 14-mile landscaped route for pedestrians, runners and cyclists will connect neighborhood parks and open spaces from Greenpoint to Bay Ridge.

In Red Hook, the Greenway runs along the west side of Columbia Street connecting to the north end of Van Brunt Street.

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI) is the 501c3 non-profit organization committed to the establishment, development and long-term stewardship of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway.

Six miles of the Greenway are already in place, including Kent Avenue, Flushing Avenue, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Columbia Street, and the northern end of Van Brunt St. Two additional miles along West Street and around the Brooklyn Navy Yard will break ground next.

Every summer BGI hosts The Epic Ride, a 40-mile ride along the Brooklyn-Queens Waterfront to Rockaway Beach.

Each fall, BGI hosts the Brooklyn Greenway Half, a half marathon and 5K exclusively on the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. This run highlights BGI’s progress in achieving a fully completed greenway along the Brooklyn waterfront, as well as showcasing city and state parks.
