In 1901, Patrick McCabe, a butcher and grocer at this location, accepted a bad check from a man posing as a sea captain who used that ruse to bilk many store owners in South Brooklyn.
In 1910, Patrick McCabe was on newly formed Erie Basin Board of Trade, which at one of its first meetings, sought a free pier and children’s playground. Some things never change!
