"Down the Gowanus" Song by Steve Suffet

Down the Gowanus is a modern folk  song by Steve Suffet.
The Gowanus Canal is a man-made industrial water way built and streightened in the 1860s from an existing creek.  The Gowanus has played a valuable role in Brooklyn's commercial traffic since the 1600s..  The mouth of the Canal is in Red Hook.

Steve Suffet writes "A friend named Maggie Bye once asked me if I knew any songs about the Gowanus Canal. I told her I didn't, but if she gave me a couple of hours I would have one for her. In reality it took me less than an hour to write."  Back-up vocals on the choruses are by Jessica Feinbloom, Joel Landy, and Anne Price.
