Red Hook Business Alliance
The Red Hook Business Alliance (RHBA) started meeting in 2019, had a bit of a lull the first two years of the pandemic as it focused on planning it's own growth, and became visibly active in late 2022 to early 2023.
Activities include policy advocacy, promoting Red Hook, creating community events, maintaining calendars for event and community meetings.
From the RHBA website (in italics):
- on the Events calendar you’ll find music, classes, art openings — fun for all.
- on the Community calendar you’ll find public meetings, library offerings, and other programs intended for the Red Hook community
RHBA represents businesses of all types (retail and industrial) and sizes, freelancers, and nonprofits. This diversity distinguises it from South Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC) which no longer has a Red Hook office but does represent Red Hook industrial business.
Red Hook tried to organize businesses some five times before RHBA, but focusing on retail only. None of those efforts survived as long as RHBA has as of August 2024, despite the stress of the pandemic.
PortSide was an RHBA member as of the 2019 startup and left in February 2024.
From the RHBA website (in italics):
"The Red Hook Business Alliance, founded in 2019, represents the diverse business community of manufacturers, retailers, restaurants, bars, artists, professionals, and non-profits across Red Hook. Our mission is to ensure the economic vitality of the Red Hook community and the preservation of one of NYC’s most dynamic and unique waterfront neighborhoods.
Our mission is to build a resilient and economically vibrant Red Hook business community through the sharing of resources, development of strategies geared to improve business conditions in Red Hook, and production of marketing events that highlight all of Red Hook’s most important assets."
There is no physical office or office hours. Contact them by email at redhookbiz@gmail.com or responding to the RHBA Instagram.
