Archeological assessment of Piers 7-12, 2006

A 2006 study examined parts of the Brooklyn Piers 7-12 site north of the Atlantic Basin that were flagged by the Landmarks Preservation Commission as warranting further study and assessment for their potential sensitivity to yield remains of archaeological and historical significance. This report is based on primary sources such as historic maps, tax assessments, sewer connection records, city directories, government documents and period newspaper articles. It was done as part of a NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC) pier study.

The report privides a good overview of the history of the area as well as focusing on the specified piers.  One of the key conclusions of the report is that under many of the streets in the study area are "pipes dating between the late 1850s to
1860, which are the earliest laid by the Nassau Water Company and therefore of historical
significance."
