IKEA

IKEA

IKEA offers Swedish-designed furniture and houseware, designs for kitchens and bathrooms and a food court.

This IKEA also has an ATM on the second floor.

The Brooklyn store of this international retailer has some unusual and spectacular features:

  • They provide a shuttle bus from downtown Brooklyn AND a ferry from Manhattan which is free if you present a receipt showing that you spent $10 at the store.
  • The store is embedded in the large Erie Basin Park built by IKEA that has piers, lawns, seating, and interpretation of this historic site and stunning views of maritime activity and the Statue of Liberty off in the distance. IKEA is located on the founding site of the former Todd Shipyard, a nationally significant company included in this virtual museum.  IKEA has preserved some features of Todd: gantry cranes, the graving dock caisson, bollards, and tools. The park is also available for community events.

IKEA has a strong, supportive relationship to Red Hook, and in 2014, PortSide presented IKEA with a Good Neighbor Award for their generous and inventive recovery work after hurricane Sandy.
