Through its company, studio and school, Cora creates exceptional dance experiences while addressing the impediments that restrict individuals from accessing the art form. Cora fosters common ground amongst diverse people, allowing all involved—artists, students, audiences and community members—to connect more deeply with one another through the arts.

THE SCHOOL

The Cora School for Dance opened its doors in Red Hook in 2009, offering classes at pay-what-you-can rates, and supporting students by providing dance shoes and clothes when needed. In the last five years, the school has served over 800 students and hosted over 20 community performances in local schools and public sites. In 2013-14, nearly 80% of its students paid less than the suggested tuition, and 15% paid nothing to take part in its services. In this way, every student is eligible for scholarships and every student’s family will remain within their financial means in order for them to get the dance experience they desire.

During the pandemic, Cora started programming in Virginia as Cora Dance Alleghany.

Due to funding issues, in June 2024, Cora is closing it's Van Brunt Street location to be working in other spaces around the community.
