The 2012 coastal storm surge of Hurricane Sandy flooded over 75 percent of the Red Hook area. The result was huge economic losses and 10,000 people affected.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency “to perform a feasibility study to identify ways to reduce flood risks from coastal storm surge and sea-level rise which would improve Red Hook’s overall resiliency.”
Dewberry Engineers was hired by the NYCEDC in 2015 to “perform a technical evaluation to identify potential permanent and deployable features that integrate with the urban environment and work together to reduce flood risk from coastal flooding and sea level rise.”
